Cancun is located in north portion of Quintana Roo state, Mexico. It is a very young city with 700,000 inhabitants with the best and most important airport in Latin America, lots of flights from everywhere, regular and charterts.
TWO CANCUNS TWO: there are two Cancuns: one for the locals: "la ciudad", i.e. downtown, and one for the tourists: the hotel zone "la zona hotelera". You see that woman over there? well, she exactly at the beginning of the hotel zone, kilometer zero. Cancun Party Area (KM 9, Hotel zone).
The hotels after hurricane Wilma are much, much better, they are renovated, some are re-built again because the owners thought it was better to do everything again.

Ah! Cancun is a paradise for gourmets (the people who can really appreciate very good food) and gourmands (a glutton). Yes, you will find Mc Donalds, Burguer King and also the most incredible restaurants (sorry, there are too many...). My experience as a tour guide has given me the opportunity to eat and drink for free in so many places. Cancun has everything!

Once again, here you will find yourself just with the best options, let us start, with taxis, even if there is not taximeter, fares are written at the reception desk. When you take a taxi in the town, you have two options, take it in a "sitio" and that is a little more expensive (I do not know why... the taxi driver union says it...) or you can take the taxi on the street. fares are written on the window. Buses are just great: from 5 a.m. until 3 a.m. everyday... at $7.50 pesos each way that you pay directly to the bus driver. And at your hotel or any other place you can rent a car. Also, Cancun has the better freeways in the region. From Cancun you can get faster and safer to Chichen Itza. So, taking a tour is more convenient if you stay here. And remember that the airport is in Cancun, so your transfer will take almost no time.
Beach conditions:
The beaches... ah, well, now, after the hurricane Wilma, beaches are better than ever, you have my word. Believe, I am also shocked to see how beautiful they are again.
Dress code:
Casual. As always cotton and linen are the best option. Forget silk and leather things (for the humidity). Sandals, tennis shoes and comfortable shoes. You can wear your diamonds because there are plenty of elegant places to go in Cancun. You can wear your best clothes, shoes, accessories a nd jewels.
